Âm nhạc nâng đỡ và giải phóng tâm trí thoát ra khỏi sự chặt chẽ của tư duy logic và thực tế đời sống, bước tới nơi trí tưởng tượng được cất cánh, thoát khỏi tính cụ thể của ngôn từ, và làm bừng nở thế giới. Ở đó, âm thanh thay ngôn từ đánh thức cảm xúc, khiến cảnh vật có linh hồn, và biến khoảnh khắc tĩnh lặng thành khoảnh khắc tràn đầy nhịp điệu. Với niềm tin ấy, SiaM vol. 45: Auf Flügeln des Gesanges (tạm dịch: Trên đôi cánh khúc ca) lấy tên từ bản ca khúc cùng tên của Felix Mendelssohn, đồng thời là tác phẩm mở đầu của vol. 45 lần này, điểm khởi đầu của hành trình nối dài những suy ngẫm về ‘tính hát’ trong âm nhạc Đức thế kỷ 19 - nơi giai điệu được đặt vào vị trí trung tâm, vừa là ngôn ngữ, vừa là điểm tựa của cảm xúc.

Nếu Schubert để lại hàng trăm khúc Lied, thì Mendelssohn lại khai mở hướng đi khác với Lieder ohne Worte – “khúc ca không lời”. Ở Mendelssohn, “không lời” không có nghĩa là thiếu vắng, mà là mở ra một khả năng khác. Ông tin rằng piano có thể hát ngọt ngào như giọng người, rằng cello có thể ngân như baritone trầm ấm, rằng violin có thể sáng trong như soprano. Mỗi nhạc cụ trở thành một thân thể biết thở, biết thầm thì, biết kể chuyện. Trong cái riêng tư ấy, người nghe lại bắt gặp mình rõ hơn, vì không còn một văn bản cụ thể để ràng buộc trí tưởng tượng.

Chủ đề ấy vang vọng trong Beethoven Trio “Archduke” – tác phẩm đồ sộ, mang dáng dấp giao hưởng nhất của Beethoven. Ở chương chậm, Beethoven mở rộng ý niệm ca khúc thành những biến tấu kéo dài mười ba phút, phóng đại lý tưởng “giọng hát” đã khai mở trước đó. Đến chương cuối, âm nhạc chuyển sang điệu dân ca rộn ràng, như lời hồi đáp trọn vẹn cho khúc mở đầu của Mendelssohn.

SiaM vol. 45: Auf Flügeln des Gesanges mời khán giả bước lên đôi cánh khúc ca: khởi đầu bằng lời gợi mở dịu dàng từ Mendelssohn, tiếp nối bằng đối thoại không lời giữa các nhạc cụ, rồi bay lên đỉnh cao cùng Beethoven. và kết lại bằng lời tri ân giản dị nhưng sâu sắc mà Schubert dành cho nghệ thuật - ngôn ngữ không lời nhưng đủ sức lưu giữ và truyền đi những miền sâu kín nhất của mỗi người.

Music lifts and frees the mind from the constraints of logic and everyday reality, allowing imagination to take flight. It moves beyond the limitations of words to bring the world to life. Here, sound replaces language to awaken emotions, give soul to landscapes, and transform silent moments into rhythmic ones. With this in mind, SiaM vol. 45: Auf Flügeln des Gesanges (translated as: On Wings of Song) is named after Felix Mendelssohn’s song of the same title, which is also the opening piece of this concert. It serves as the starting point for an extended reflection on the ‘singing quality’ of 19th-century German music—where melody is central, acting as both language and emotional anchor.

While Schubert left behind hundreds of Lieder, Mendelssohn carved a different path with his Lieder ohne Worte (Songs Without Words). For Mendelssohn, "without words" didn't mean a lack, but rather a new possibility. He believed the piano could sing as sweetly as a human voice, the cello could resonate like a warm baritone, and the violin could shine like a clear soprano. Each instrument became a living body that breathes, whispers, and tells stories. Within this intimacy, listeners find themselves more clearly, freed from the confines of a specific text.

This theme echoes in Beethoven’s "Archduke" Trio, a monumental work with a symphonic feel. In the slow movement, Beethoven expands the idea of a song into a thirteen-minute variation, amplifying the "vocal" ideal he had previously established. By the final movement, the music shifts to a lively folk tune, a complete and beautiful response to Mendelssohn’s opening piece.

SiaM vol. 45: Auf Flügeln des Gesanges invites the audience to take flight on the wings of song: beginning with Mendelssohn’s gentle suggestion, continuing with a wordless dialogue between instruments, soaring to a peak with Beethoven, and concluding with Schubert's simple yet profound tribute to art—a silent language powerful enough to preserve and convey the innermost feelings of every person.
