II. Giới thiệu chung buổi hòa nhạc Classical Smackdown - Heart & Soul: DEBUSSY vs PROKOFIEV

Classical Smackdown: Heart & Soul là ý tưởng sáng tạo của nghệ sĩ piano Frederic Chiu, đây là mô hình hòa nhạc kết hợp tương tác của khán giả biến một buổi biểu diễn thông thường thành một cuộc so tài âm nhạc giữa Claude Debussy và Sergei Prokofiev. Ông luân phiên biểu diễn các tác phẩm của cả hai nhà soạn nhạc qua 4 vòng đấu, đồng thời đưa ra những diễn giải về các tác phẩm đó để làm nổi bật sự khác biệt phong cách rõ rệt của họ. Thay vì chỉ lắng nghe thụ động, khán giả sẽ bỏ phiếu ngay trong lúc nghe để quyết định người chiến thắng sau từng vòng. Mô hình hòa nhạc độc đáo này nhằm mục đích kết nối âm nhạc cổ điển với người nghe hiện đại, biến các buổi biểu diễn truyền thống thành những chương trình hấp dẫn và kịch tính.

Khó có thể tìm được hai nhà soạn nhạc nào sống ở thời điểm chuyển giao thế kỷ 20 lại có sự khác nhau rõ ràng hơn hai con người này. Đây là thời kỳ mà âm nhạc thực sự mang tầm ảnh hưởng rất lớn – lay động tâm hồn con người. hướng tới tình yêu, lòng yêu nước và sự mãnh liệt dữ dội, mạnh mẽ hơn bất kỳ phương tiện nào khác. TIỂU SỬ NGHỆ SĨ

Frederic Chiu đã biểu diễn tại những sân khấu hàng đầu trên năm châu lục, bao gồm Trung tâm Lincoln ở New York, nhà hát Le Châtelet tại Paris, Mozarteum ở Buenos Aires, đồng thời thực hiện nhiều chuyến lưu diễn tại các không gian nhỏ hơn và độc đáo. Ông hợp tác cùng các nghệ sĩ âm nhạc cổ điển như Joshua Bell, Pierre Amoyal và nhóm tứ tấu dây St. Lawrence, cũng như các nghệ sĩ ngoài dòng cổ điển như nghệ sĩ piano jazz Bob James hay nghệ sĩ kể chuyện David Gonzalez, nhằm mang đến những trải nghiệm piano sống động cho mọi đối tượng khán giả.

II. ABOUT CLASSICAL SMACKDOWN 

Classical Smackdown: Heart & Soul, created by pianist Frederic Chiu, is an interactive concert format that transforms a piano recital as a competitive musical battle between Claude Debussy and Sergei Prokofiev. Frederic Chiu performs alternating works from both composers across three rounds while providing commentary to highlight their distinct stylistic differences. Instead of passive listening, the audience votes in real-time to determine the winner of each round. This dynamic format aims to bridge the gap between classical music and modern listeners, transforming traditional performances into engaging events..

MUSICIAN BIO:

Frederic Chiu plays major venues on five continents: Lincoln Center in New York, Le Châtelet in Paris, the Mozarteum in Buenos Aires, and extensive tours in smaller and unusual venues. He collaborates with Classical music friends Joshua Bell, Pierre Amoyal and the St Lawrence String Quartet, as well as non-Classical friends like jazz pianist Bob James or storyteller David Gonzalez, to bring vivid live piano experiences to all audiences.

Frederic Chiu recorded the most extensive complete piano works of Prokofiev, and his personal relationship with the Prokofiev family makes him a world-recognized advocate of the composer. Across 30+ albums, he has recorded works of Chopin, Liszt, Ravel, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Rossini and Grieg. His wide recording legacy is seen in his latest recordings: Beethoven/Liszt Symphonies V and VII, “Hymns and Dervishes,” music of Gurdjieff/de Hartmann, “Distant Voices: Music of Claude Debussy & Gao Ping,” and Schubert’s Fantasy for Violin and Piano.

His innovative programming includes “Classical Smackdown,” where composers face off in head-to-head comparisons, with listeners voting for their favorite composer: Debussy vs. Prokofiev, Bach vs. Glass, Mendelssohn vs. Chopin before age 20.
